🤝 Joint Project: RC Montebello (RID 9220) & RC Bangalore Lakeside (RID 3191)
Visit to Cottolengo Convent, Whitefield – Monday, 29th January 2024
On Monday, 29th January 2024, President Leena of the Rotary Club of Montebello embarked on a deeply meaningful visit to the Cottolengo Convent in Whitefield, Bangalore. This visit, part of a joint project between RC Montebello (District 9220) and RC Bangalore Lakeside (District 3191), was a testament to the power of Rotary’s global collaboration and shared compassion.
Founded in 1989, the Cottolengo Convent is a sanctuary and rehabilitation centre that cares for severely mentally disabled girls, offering them love, care, and vocational empowerment through occupational activities. The Sisters at the convent dedicate themselves to nurturing and supporting these special children with unwavering compassion.
During the visit, teams from Montebello and Nepal engaged warmly with the children and toured an inspiring exhibition showcasing the talents and handcrafted items made by the residents. With pride and excitement, the girls explained how they created cloth bags from discarded bedsheets and clothing, stitched with care and purpose. One of the most heartwarming moments was hearing them describe how they made pickles and prepared fruits—a beautiful display of self-reliance and joy in the little things. 🧃🍪🪡
As part of this joint initiative, RC Montebello proudly sponsored a washing machine and a sewing machine to support the Convent’s efforts in vocational training and sustainability. These small but impactful contributions are aimed at empowering the girls while easing daily operations for the Sisters.
Snacks and drinks were distributed to the children during the visit, adding a touch of celebration and warmth to the day. The entire experience was truly humbling and uplifting, leaving a lasting impression on all participants.
