Sunday, 16th March was no ordinary day for the members of the Interact Club of Montebello. It was a day filled with warmth, care, and heartfelt connections as we visited the Shelter for Women and Children in Distress—a safe space where young girls find support and hope.
At first, the children were a bit shy, unsure of these new faces around them. But as we gathered for board games
, snake and ladder
, ludo, face painting
, and fun activities, the walls slowly crumbled. Laughter echoed through the room, and smiles lit up every face. Our Director of Service Projects, Anjalee, then led a Zumba session
, filling the space with energy, music, and joyful movement. The sight of little feet dancing and tiny hands clapping was truly heartwarming.

As the day unfolded, something even more special happened—the children felt the love that surrounded them. Having people who genuinely care, who take the time to simply be with them, meant the world to them. They held on tightly to our interactors, their hugs
filled with unspoken gratitude. In that moment, they weren’t just children in a shelter—they were children who felt seen, valued, and loved.

A special thanks to President Riya for securing sponsorship and to Plaspak Ltd for their generosity, which made this project possible. The children delighted in snacks
and juices
, small treats that brought so much joy to their day. After celebrating Women’s Day

, we engaged them in a creative activity where they filled a poster with words about women
—a beautiful reflection of their thoughts and dreams.

We are deeply grateful to the shelter’s administration for their warm welcome and for allowing us to be part of these children’s lives, even if just for a few hours. As our interactors left, they carried with them something priceless—the hugs, the smiles, and the love of children who, for a moment, felt the pure joy of being surrounded by people who truly care.
